It seems like just yesterday when Bunny Fiterman and I snuck out of graduation practice to drink screwdrivers at her house.

Our class is really a transition group, from post-war to baby boomers. Too early for good weed or reliable birth control. Just in time to fight in Vietnam or avoid the draft. Most important, we were there when rock 'n roll was born. And the beat goes on.

From Mary:After high school I attended the U of M majoring in Art, thank you to Wendell Heer's, art teacher at SLP. In the summer of "64" I thought it may be fun to apply for stewardess with Northwest Orient Airlines. I figured I would fly for the summer. In those days we were weighed before most trips, wore high heels, white gloves and a hat with our uniforms. When I retired 39 years later it was quite a bit different. Sandy Snead started a few months before me however we barely saw each other as she was in Seattle and I in Mpls. Most of our flights were international.
Over the years I was married for a few years, have a great son, Zack, who also went to SLP. One of his best friends was Sam Hosakawa whose dad is David. We lived on Salem Ave. in SLP.
Over the years I have been involved in General Aviation as well as commercial. My boy friend
of 25 years lived in St. Louis. We had a farm and a couple of very old open cockpit biplanes that we flew throughout the midwest. He passed away 8 years ago. I still have the farm and my residence is in Golden Eagle IL which is a ferry boat ride across the Mississippi river from St. Charles Mo.
I spend much of my time in Minnesota. My son provides a small apartment for me in his home which is across the alley from the Zen Center on Lake Calhoun. For the last four years I have been in a committed relationship with a fabulous guy who happens to be a pilot for Northwest which, unfortunately, is now called Delta. He lives in Eagan Mn. So I go back and forth.
That is my story.
I am happy.
Don't know if I will be in town to party with you.
I have barely seen anyone from high school.
I am sure it will be a great time for all.

Well, let’s see. What have I been doing for the last 50 years? Went to the U of M; graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing, got married, moved to Chicago, worked at the VA Hospital, got divorced, moved back to Mpls, went to work at the VA Hospital, got engaged, got unengaged, moved to San Diego area, went to work for the VA Hospital, started riding horses, competed in jumping events, bred a couple of horse babies, got older and bones started to break when I got dumped off a horse, so I quit competing. Got married, retired from the VA, became involved with therapeutic horseback riding for people with special needs, was elected to the board of Directors of the Lakeside Chamber of Commerce, now president elect, got separated and now back on my own and that is the short version. From Sally:43 years married and the best is yet to come! The trick will be for both of us to really retire at the same time. My career involved the "phone company"...North Western Bell, Illinois Bell, Ameritech and AT&T mainly as an intructor. Tony was a tech rep & held several management positions with Xerox. From Margo:After all these years I still miss Minnesota but I love Chicago where I have lived since 1978. Prior to that it was San Jose, California and Ann Arbor Michigan.
Today I am retired from my career as a professional fundraiser for nonprofit organizations in Chicago. So now I have the time to enjoy being a yia yia. Believe it or not (I don't), my husband and I have a total of 21 grandchildren and step grandchildren! Some live around Chicago but most live all over the place so we travel to see them when we can.
I try to visit Greece as often as possible because I have family who live there, and I love that Greek "Opa" life-style so much. I have resumed my commitment to study the Greek language so I can impress the waiters when I order my ouzo and moussaka at the taverna!
I am so looking forward to seeing our classmates at our 50th class reunion. What a great time to celebrate!

Not until I got older did I realize that I liked jogging and running long distances.

If I could go back and magically transform things, there would be varsity sports for girls when we were in high school. I remember, in 6th grade at Eliot School all the kids in 6th grade had a race back and forth across the playground. Joan Halversen finished first out of all the boys and girls. Unfortunately, there were no varsity high school teams for athletic girls, like Joan. Girls had no opportunity to receive athletic scholarships to universities. Back then they were considered too fragile to play full court basketball. I remember seeing them play with 5 girls on defense at one end of the court and 5 at the other end playing offense. They were not allowed to exert themselves by running up and down the entire court. Today it is so much better! At Bemidji High School there are varsity girl’s teams for track, basketball, hockey, softball, volley ball, swimming, soccer, and golf.

After finishing U of M, I remember going down to Mpls Federal Building to sign papers for going into Navy Officer Candidate School. I ran into Gary Sanford on his way to sign papers for entering the Army. He said, “Heck Bob, why don’t you go into the Army, like me? “ I said, “Sure why not! “ I did not have a strong affinity for any one Service, nor did I want to go into the military at all. I want to thank Reverend Sanford for his astute guidance! My Army experience was terrific. I went to the Defense Language Institute at Monterey, CA and then worked as a Spanish Linguist in Panama for the Army Security Agency. Later, I received orders for Vietnam, but fortunately never went. My orders were changed and I was reassigned to a missile program because of my mathematics background. The missile program experience helped me get a great civilian job.

I worked in the software development and maintenance field for more than 30 years in different positions for a variety of companies and organizations in a number of different locations, including San Diego; Boston; Pittsburgh; Huntsville, AL; Dallas; and Houston.

I am fortunate to be married to a nice, talented, very attractive, supportive woman. We enjoy spending summers in Northern, MN and try to spend a substantial part of the winters in South America.

I thank all the volunteers who are doing such a great job of organizing our 50^th reunion. I look forward to seeing all you guys in August.

I retired from Nursing about 3 years ago after working as a community health nurse for 40 + years. My last employment was as a nursing educator and clinical instructor for 15 years with Regis Univerity.

My husband Bruce says he will never retire! His profession as a professor of accounting has allowed us to travel internationally to many countries. Having made multiple teaching trips to France in the last 2 years, I wish I had studied a lot harder in high school French!!

After college at Iowa State University, I taught elementary school for five years in Robbinsdale, MN. My husband and I moved to Boston where I taught English in a middle school for two years. Then I devoted my life to raising two sons, a daughter, a husband and numerous Golden Retrievers. Now I have three wonderful grandchildren to add to the mix.

I spent a zillion hours doing volunteer work for non-profits, my community and schools. I wanted to give back but I also wanted to get out of the house when the kids were little. Just being honest.

I have had a great life, a wonderful life but one that won't merit a statue in the park. This is a shame because I think I'd look great cast in bronze.

From Karen:Graduated from Mankato, taught 1st grade at Osseo for two years, but did not want to "endure" the MN winters one more year so in 1967 I moved to more hospitable environs. . .Long Beach, CA.I started teaching in Garden Grove and remained there until retiring in 2003.
I would say that my teaching career, raising two children, being involved in their activities - totally consumed our lives (not complaining). And now that we are empty nesters (still no grandchildren) and retired, we have the time to enjoy the everyday things in life ( I love Sunday nights and Monday mornings)!
I have not attended any reunions but am looking forward to this one and seeing all us "oldies." I also look forward to connecting with many Oak Hillers and Park Knollers at our mini-reunion (can you believe the Oak Hill Drive-In is still there albeit another name and redo)!

From Sandy:My two marriages have given me a wonderful family. We have two sons and daughters-in law, a daughter and 3 wonderful grandchildren. All three of our children, Jonathan and Mark Miller, and Kelly Bennett graduated from Armstrong High School in Plymouth.

I retired from Honeywell as a librarian when we moved to Arizona 14 years ago. I also was a substitute for the Hennepin County Library System.

We spend a lot of time on the airplane as we
are very involved with our grandchildren who live in Mpls. We also have a part-time handyman business, Lou's Honey-Do's, which my husband started when he retired from Northwest Airlines as an aircraft mechanic.
