Walking, reading, entertaining and grandkids. We are fortunate enough to have 2 grandgirls and 4 grandboys all here in the cities. We spend about a third of the year here, a third in Tucson and the rest at the cabin. It makes for fun times, much chaos
Europe and Alaska were our most memorable
It's been a great run. I wish I wasn't so passionate about politics.

After careers as a medical technologist, nuclear medical technologist and time in adolescent gynecology, I finally found my niche and I am working happily ever after.Married 45 years with two sons and one grandchild. I would have skipped a career or two. I would have spent more time with my dear departed friend. I would have colored my hair for this picture. 2012-08-06 21:33:24 |

I haven't been back to Minnesota since I moved to Tucson in 1982. The last time I was there the mosquitoes tried to eat me alive and I never went back.
My son turned 44 this year and thinks he's getting old, what I wouldn't give to be old like him again. I also have two daughters, Angie aged 41 and Missy aged 38. My eldest Grandchild Ashley is married and has a two year old daughter and my youngest Grandchild Katie is getting her college degree this spring. I'm thoroughly enjoying retirement and have been going on road trips all over the Western US. It has been a lot of fun looking through this website and at all the classmate bios. It also was fun seeing some of my classmates from Brookside grade school and seems impossible that it has been over 50 years since we all graduated. |

Mostly soft rock - Eagles, that type. Some Country music, the older type like Merle Haggard, Waylon, Willie. When I am in the mood, I like Aerosmith. I still enjoy Elvis. I listen to the Elvis channel on XM radio whenever I can
Older, but young for my age. I'd like to think they would describe me as a good friend with a good sense of humor.
I've thought about this a lot in recent years. If I had it to do over, I would like to take more chances in life. I settled in at an early age with having a family, a job to support them, and that's pretty much what it has been. No complaints, but I think I could have made more of my life than I did. I spent most of my life trying to figure out what I wanted to be when I grew up... I think I wanted to be retired. 2012-08-06 21:33:31 It is hard to believe that 50 years have passed since we vacated the halls of Park High to face the challenges and mysteries that awaited us. |

We have remained in the western suburbs all these years. Our sons, Jeff and Kevin, have both lived out of state after college, but we are so lucky that our kids now live in the area and we see them often. Jeff and Mindy, Daniel and Jordan live in Eden Prairie. Kevin and Nina, Jacob and twins Adam and Annie live in Plymouth. The years have flown by it seems and I look forward to reconnecting wtih some of my former classmates at this reunion. |

Together we have 19 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. We lived 26 years in Menahga, Mn. and 8 yrs ago we moved to Brooten, Mn., my husband's hometown. My step-daughter and family live in "beautiful" Vancouver, B.C. We go as often as we can. We hosted an exchange student from Konsmo, Norway (NW of Oslo). We visited her and her family. Great trip. Some of my favorite activities are: quilting at home and church; volunteering at Green Lake Bible Camp; Dollars for Scholars while in Menahga; my Mon - Fri coffee group (affectionately known as "the local 'View'"); spending time with grandchildren, my sister, the "Glo" girls and family. I'm looking forward to the 50th class reunion and getting reacquainted. "Thank you" to the committee! I know I have "snail mail", but I enjoy sending cards and letters and receiving them. First off: better late than never with this profile - and missing you already. Sorry I shan't be reuning, but time ran out on getting a hair transplant and losing three stone (as they measure weight over here) -- here being England where I've lived for the past 23 years...Post-Carleton: M.A. in English lit at Wesleyan University, then taught in Westchester County NY, moved to NYC and worked for Newsweek & Sports Illustrated magazines, then met & married an "international businesswoman", actually bought and lived in the famiily home in StLP for two years (at the time of our 25th, in fact, which I attended with Neil Sandstad & Georgia Matsumoto) between living in Australia & England which has been my home now for nearly 1/3 of my life. Recently, profoundly sadly widowed and trying to keep "things" together. I help to run the largest, privately held photographic library in Europe which is represented exclusively & internationally by Getty Images. I'm active in my picture-postcard stone & thatch village just up the lane from Althorp, where Princess Diana is buried; I serve on Northamptonshire county committees for the British Red Cross and Macmillan Cancer Support; I held the post of churchwarden at our parish church - which was also held by George Washington's great-great-great-great uncle in the early 17th century; and I'm very partial to vodka martinis. Finally, just to say -- all the reunion materials & information are truly amazing and I've shared them with friends who are planning their own 50th's in high schools in Boston & Honolulu. Thank you. And...I've already diaried our 60th. P.S. I'm in touch with Jack Loegering's widow & sons who live in Dallas. P.P.S. Does anyone know how Mary Mayhew can be contacted? I have a particular pecuniary reason for asking... |

We are spending many hours planning the 50th reunion, and having a good time doing it. Your job is to attend! Please make this one, our best yet. Waiting to see you in August 2011!!!outspoken, hard worker, and I'm sure some I don't know about! My Dad has a saying, "It's water over the dam". I've been blessed with a good life and am thankful for it. I sold air filters for HVAC systems in commercial buildings for 27 years, just in the process of retiring, and handing over the reins to my son. Plan to spend a lot of time at our lake place in McGregor, MN. My Dad built it in 1956 and we were able to purchase the land, 40 acres, and cabin. Now we have 80 acres and Amy, David, and my brother each have a cabin too. It's a "high maintenance" place with no electricity, running water, or road maintenance for 3 miles, but we do have "Direct TV"! Luckily I married someone who enjoys the remoteness, and challenges. Take a look at the fish I caught this weekend! Just had to show the boys [Jeff Lava, Bill Rosso, and Jack Rasmussen] the girls can catch em too. Jack took the "biggest fish" prize, but I'll take second! 2012-08-06 21:33:19 I've been married for 46 years to "Jim". We have 2 children, Amy and David, Daughter Amy married David, and son David married Amy! We are confused most of the time. We have 5 grandchildren, 1 boy-4 girls ages 10-16. They both live within 12 miles of us, we are so lucky. |

I have been a private duty nurse for 45 years taking care of children who are handicapped or terminally ill.Since we both retired last year we have sold our house and bought a 5th wheel RV and are traveling around the country in it. We return to TX every once in awhile and see our daughter and her family who live here. We have a son and his family in MA. and a daughter and her family who live in Nashville. Time with my kids and grandkids, canoeing, golf, yoga, reading, time with friends,
Mexico, Caribbean, Bahamas. Want to see Europe, and travel the parts of the US I have not been to yet.
Depends on the mood I'm in. Rock, ballads, some country, occasionally classical
I'm very lucky. I have a great family, and close friends. I have traveled to some wonderful places, had an interesting career. So I wouldn't change any of that. However, I would be okay with better knees, a good singing voice and a good ear so that I could harmonize when singing in a group, also a better memory.
2012-08-06 21:33:31
50 years! Hard to believe, I remember my parents going to their 50 year class reunion, and I'm sure they were much older than we are. But then again my daughter, the baby, turns 40 this year, my son is 43 and I now have 4 grand children ranging in age from 4 to 14. I'm very fortunate that all of them still live near by giving me the opportunity to be with them often. They are very sports minded-- hockey in the winter, softball in the spring, La Crosse in the summer, running, biking, swimming, skiing. I am a great supporter and love to cheer them on. I have worked most of my adult life--Started as a speech therapist, but soon discovered that was not my thing. Have spent most of my career in sales within the hearing industry, working for manufacturers. I retired 6 weeks ago and am learning to live the life of a retiree. I think I'm getting the hang of it-playing golf, reading, spending time with the kids and grand kids. I'm incredibly lucky to have a few close friends, some going all the way back to high school, who are fun, active, supportive and caring. |

If I had any friends I would hope they would say I was trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent because I have not been all of those things. And of course, I would hope they would say a little bit humorous.
I would hope they would say I was kind and generous, because I try to be. They might also say I was organized--to the point of being obsessive. I have been blessed with a loving wife for 41 years, loving, caring and supporting friends and family. If I regret one thing it is that I will never be able to dance with our only child--a daughter--at her weddding. A 2lb. preemie, Leslie was born at Walter Reed in Washington D.C. She graduated from the Univ of Missouri in Journalism and loved working in NYC. In 1999 Les suffered significant head trama in a fall on Mother's Day and died the following day. Her gift of life to others is our blessing. We think of her every day. 2012-08-06 21:33:23 Many, many thanks to the team organizing the reunion for August 2011. |

For the last several years, I have spent 7 mos. in Ca., and 5 mos. in Drummond, WI., north of Hayward, WI. It is the best of both worlds. I have 3 married children, and four grandchildren. They are a joy! I have been engaged to a wonderful man, Paul, for almost ten years. I spent many years in the thouroughbred horse industry. We bred and raced thoroughbreds, and my insurance agency insured valuable horses. It was a unique business. I am looking forward to seeing my old classmates.

Rock 'n Roll, Oldies, and some country
Seeing that a friend is writing this for me, she will say that I am pretty easy going, fun loving, church going, hunter, and maybe a little stubborn.
I have had a pretty good life, with a loving family and friends so I don't think I would change much.
2012-08-06 21:33:24
As some of you know I was married to our class mate and best friend Mary Williams for 42 years, until her untimely death from cancer. We were married when we both attended the U of M and had 4 great children, who gave us 7 wonderful grandchildren. Two (twins) of them will be going off to college in the fall.
I have retired from UMD in Duluth and have my own small electrical company (me), that I try to fit in between my hunting trips, vacations with my son, and watching the grandchildren when possible. I also try and fit in a social life. So I guess I have had and still have a pretty good life.

hunting for antiques with my daughter, wildflower gardening, having lunch with really good friends, reading...watching HGTV!
I would like to visit Sweden and find my grandma's farmhouse...I'm just sure it's there...and France and India. All up-coming trips...
Beethoven, Mozart, Tonic Sol-fa and...Elvis.
Happy, creative, content...
See comments below...
AND I really wish I had met Elvis... 2012-08-06 21:33:30 I truly don’t feel any older than I did at graduation...BUT I do have a daughter who just turned forty so apparently SOME time must have elapsed! But fifty years...incredible! I’m still working... for the City of Maple Grove as well as with my interior design clients... http://www.joannlowriedesign.com ...so I get to use both sides of my brain most of the time....except during my commute and our Minnesota snowstorms! I’ve been to college twice; once at Mankato State and much later at the University of Minnesota’s School of Architecture while Ralph Rapson was dean...a truly remarkable, amazing, transforming experience! I was married to Tom Lowrie in 1963; had my beautiful daughter, Noelle, in 1970; and was happily divorced in 1984. I’ve worked as an architect for Setter, Leach and Lindstrom in Minneapolis; an interior designer for a design center in Buffalo, Minnesota; a residential appraiser for the City of Plymouth; served as a member of the Minnesota Design Team for ten years and now am enjoying wildflower gardening, antiquing, playing piano, mini-scrapbooking for family, friends and General Mills, reading...mostly biographies, drawing house portraits, playing E and F part-time in an English handbell choir, researching my Swedish roots...and loving my granddog, ellie the chihuahua (who has her own website and is really a human trapped in a dog’s body, I’m sure!) I’m very blessed to still have my mom and aunt around...they will both be 94 on August 1st as they are identical twins (by birth but not by temperament, that’s for sure!)... as well as two sisters, a brother, two wonderful nieces and a nephew...plus a very talented nephew–in-law, Brian Applegate, who designs and fabricates Applegate guitars right out of his workshop in Chanhassen, Minnesota. I still miss my dad, who died in 2003 at age 90 after a heart-breaking bout with cancer. He was my hero, my true North, a man who impressed everyone who met him with his intelligence and humility, a WWII Army lieutenant colonel stationed on Bougainville Island in the South Pacific whose calm demeanor and desert-dry sense of humor reassured all 150 of the men in his company, the person who taught me how important it is to recognize and enjoy life’s simple blessings, and in his final days, the loving father who taught all of his children how to die with courage and dignity and simple surrender. If I could change anything at all, it would be to have the monstrous disease that took his life wiped off the face of the earth forever... I’m just so happy and content almost every single day...except during my commute and our Minnesota snowstorms! I love everything that I do, love all the experiences...both good and bad...that I’ve been privileged to have had, love all the people in my life...looking forward to our 55th reunion to see if we will all start looking younger. I’m sure that this aging thing shifts into reverse at some point... |

I have a B.A. in English, music, and secondary education from Hamline University. One of the joys of my life was to obtain a Master of Arts in Theology and Certificate in Pastoral Ministry, graduating in 2005 (at age 61) from the College of St. Catherine. Loved the intellectual stimulation.Wish I had better health. Would love a digital SLR camera. 2012-08-06 21:33:29 I've taught English 10 and 12 in Robbinsdale; worked for U of M Hospitals and Health Sciences; spent 30 years as a communications consultant; and ended with public relations for a wildlife refuge and market development for PDI. My husband Curt suffers from chronic leukemia now, but is retired from the City of Fridley (engineering and parks). Our older son Eric is 39, with a masters in glass. He teaches glassblowing and other art subjects at Anoka-Ramsey CC. Our younger son Curtis is 37, with a certificate in massage therapy. He is an awesome drummer and works for the City of Brooklyn Center. Tennis-some. Golf-some. Bicycling. Walking. Exercise-I have to. Art observe, not produce-yet. Theater observe, not act-ever. Music, listen, not play again-yet.
Most of Western Europe; Mexico; Canada. Let me put it this way--my son has traveled much more than I have.
All music, but I'm always ready for rock 'n roll.
Good question! I may consider asking them, but I hesitate. Best guesses. Usually fun but a little out there at times. Usually reliable but a little out there at times. Good person to play tennis or golf with because they can always beat me.
It has not been perfect. It has all worked out reasonbably well. What would I change? At least one relationship decision. Not being an orthodontist and solely focused on braces (every kid gets braces these days)-my son didn't take this advice either despite whispering subliminal messages in his ear at night when he was a little guy. Not taking typing classes and harassing the guys who did.

My great admiration for the tremendous work by our classmates responsible for '61 IT'S NOW OR NEVER. "Far out". I don't know anyone who has had a reunion of this magnitude. When I moved to Oregon in 1973 for training, I didn't really know where Oregon was, just that it was near California, which was my ultimate goal (like about everyone leaving Minn). As an expatriate (of Minnesota), I have to say that I didn't have a full appreciation for Minnesota until I discovered Garrison Keillor (a U of M student when we were there) and Prairie Home Companion by accident on the radio many years ago while driving between Portland and Seattle. Now I live vicariously. |

I practiced Pediatrics for 9 years (1975-1984). I then became the Medical Director for a national insurance company where I started HMOs throughout the country (1984-1990). In 1990, until I retired, I was a consultant to large employers on their health care benefits for their employees. I retired in 2007. Since retiring, I started a free pediatric clinic at Sabathani Community Center which I staff 2 one-half days per week.I have been married for 35 years. We have one daughter and one granddaughter. My wife is a psychotherapist and has a private practice. |

Married my high school sweetheart, Vern "Hobby" Habighorst in Sept. 1961 and recently celebrated our 49th Anniversary! Little did I know at the age of 18 that I was marrying a true entrepreneur and that our future lifestyle would include horses! We moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1967, started a trophy business, Blue Ribbon Awards in 1972 and our Western show saddlery business, Blue Ribbon Custom Tack in 1981. I feel very fortunate in that our daughter and son work in our businesses and that we can enjoy time frequently with our four beautiful granddaughters. Vern and our two oldest granddaughters show our quarter horses at "halter" very successfully and I enjoy watching them from the sidelines. We enjoy traveling to horse shows throughout the US and have no intention of retiring anytime soon, health permitting.
