Marital status: Married
Children: 1
Occupation: Business owner/medical research/writer
Comment: I have been very happily married for  45 years to my high school sweetheart (from Benilde). Our motto has been that "There's nothing we can't solve together." We married in 1966 when he returned from Vietnam.

Our daughter took the "now" picture below. She placed us  in the same location  (31st and Kentucky) where we had a similar picture taken in 1957. My daughter found the "then" picture, which was taken on my 18th birthday in February of 1961. It was taken downtown Mpls in some " Hennepin arcade" on a date? with  my husband.  (My daughter found it because it is her father's favorite picture of me from that time era and he carried it to Vietnam. He had a big painting  made from it which we have on our wall.

We took a financial risk  (gave up very good jobs) and started a health care management business in 1986 so we could work and travel together -- rather than traveling separately for different business. For me,  going back to medical research and related activities was  more meaningful  than worrying about another quality (???)  "operating system software release schedule."

We have been blessed to have had a  successful  25 years in  running our  business with no problem years. We have added 10 employees recently, which will help us "kick back" a little.  Marketing has been exclusively through "word of mouth." Every day is different -- and we learn something new  every day as well as "meet" wonderful people from all walks of life.  We contract only with organizations but do pro bono work for individuals when appropriate and possible.

We have one "two-legged" daughter, who is  successful and nationally known for her artistic and creative work. Her husband is also very creative but works in Foundation management.  We  have a beautiful four legged daughter - a German Shepherd named Gloria.
What are your favorite activities?: Swimming, boating, working, animal rescue
What countries have you visited and/or would you like to visit?: Spent 25 plus years traveling - no more please
What kind of music do you like today?: Soft
How would your friends describe you today?: Workacholic, "dial a cause," kind, active, sensitive, animal lover, no nonsense, intimidating when necessary, "meeting" hater.
What would you change if you could?: Very little. I worked full time while in high school and was self supporting. This was good background for "life," and college but I am certain that I missed a lot of fun and also learning opportunities. The same was true for my husband.

I had a wonderful time and lots of fun in college and graduate school (despite work), however. We still maintain almost weekly ties with friends from graduate school - some of whom are still in Minnesota.

I did not have an Echowan picture taken.

I had to make financial choices. Since I did not participate in activities nor was my high school class attendance "stellar" it did not make "financial cents" to spend the money for the picture.

Comment:

After finishing U of M, I remember going down to Mpls Federal Building to sign papers for going into Navy Officer Candidate School.  I ran into Gary Sanford on his way to sign papers for entering the Army.  He said, “Heck Bob, why don’t you go into the Army, like me? “  I said, “Sure why not! “  I did not have a strong affinity for any one Service, nor did I want to go into the military at all.   I want to thank Reverend Sanford for his astute guidance!  My Army experience was terrific.  I went to the Defense Language Institute at Monterey, CA and then worked as a Spanish Linguist in Panama for the Army Security Agency.  Later, I received orders for Vietnam, but fortunately never went. My orders were changed and I was reassigned to a missile program because of my mathematics background.  The missile program experience helped me get a great civilian job.

I worked in the software development and maintenance field for more than 30 years in different positions for a variety of companies and organizations in a number of different locations, including San Diego; Boston; Pittsburgh; Huntsville, AL; Dallas; and Houston.

I am fortunate to be married to a nice, talented, very attractive, supportive woman.  We enjoy spending summers in Northern, MN and try to spend a substantial part of the winters in South America.

I thank all the volunteers who are doing such a great job of organizing our 50th reunion.  I look forward to seeing all you guys in August.

Hey Brian O’Rourke and Ron Gasman where the heck are you guys?

What are your favorite activities?: Camping, fishing, traveling, sports, visiting family and friends
What countries have you visited and/or would you like to visit?: Visited most Latin American countries, many Caribbean Islands, England, France, Portugal, Fiji, Samoa, New Zealand. Would like to visit Cuba.
What kind of music do you like today?: Latin, country, easy listening, oldies
How would your friends describe you today?: Friendly, hardworking, responsible, likes to have fun
What would you change if you could?: Should have run cross country for Roy Griak. Not until I got older did I realize that I liked jogging and running long distances.

If I could go back and magically transform things, there would be varsity sports for girls when we were in high school. I remember, in 6th grade at Eliot School all the kids in 6th grade had a race back and forth across the playground. Joan Halversen finished first out of all the boys and girls. Unfortunately, there were no varsity high school teams for athletic girls, like Joan. Girls had no opportunity to receive athletic scholarships to universities. Back then they were considered too fragile to play full court basketball. I remember seeing them play with 5 girls on defense at one end of the court and 5 at the other end playing offense. They were not allowed to exert themselves by running up and down the entire court. Today it is so much better! At Bemidji High School there are varsity girl’s teams for track, basketball, hockey, softball, volley ball, swimming, soccer, and golf.
