My husband and I met at St. Cloud State in 1961 after high school and have moved around the USA with JC Penneys who he worked for for 30 years. I have been a private duty nurse for 45 years taking care of children who are handicapped or terminally ill. Since we both retired last year we have sold our house and bought a 5th wheel RV and are traveling around the country in it. We return to TX every once in awhile and see our daughter and her family who live here. We have a son and his family in MA. and a daughter and her family who live in Nashville. First off: better late than never with this profile - and missing you already. Sorry I shan't be reuning, but time ran out on getting a hair transplant and losing three stone (as they measure weight over here) -- here being England where I've lived for the past 23 years... Post-Carleton: M.A. in English lit at Wesleyan University, then taught in Westchester County NY, moved to NYC and worked for Newsweek & Sports Illustrated magazines, then met & married an "international businesswoman", actually bought and lived in the famiily home in StLP for two years (at the time of our 25th, in fact, which I attended with Neil Sandstad & Georgia Matsumoto) between living in Australia & England which has been my home now for nearly 1/3 of my life. Recently, profoundly sadly widowed and trying to keep "things" together. I help to run the largest, privately held photographic library in Europe which is represented exclusively & internationally by Getty Images. I'm active in my picture-postcard stone & thatch village just up the lane from Althorp, where Princess Diana is buried; I serve on Northamptonshire county committees for the British Red Cross and Macmillan Cancer Support; I held the post of churchwarden at our parish church - which was also held by George Washington's great-great-great-great uncle in the early 17th century; and I'm very partial to vodka martinis. Finally, just to say -- all the reunion materials & information are truly amazing and I've shared them with friends who are planning their own 50th's in high schools in Boston & Honolulu. Thank you. And...I've already diaried our 60th. P.S. I'm in touch with Jack Loegering's widow & sons who live in Dallas. P.P.S. Does anyone know how Mary Mayhew can be contacted? I have a particular pecuniary reason for asking... |
|
What are your favorite activities?: | I suppose spending time with friends, doing lots of stuff and spending time with me, ditto...walking, reading, drinking, swimming, laughing, travelling, remaining engaged & rewarded / being engaging & rewarding |
What countries have you visited and/or would you like to visit?: | ...most of Europe & the Far East (my brother, Sheldon SLP'63, lives in Laos), all 50 states + Canada & Mexico, Australia/New Zealand where we lived for a year and a bit of Africa & South America - only Antarctica to go... |
What kind of music do you like today?: | Classical |
How would your friends describe you today?: I'll ask them and get back to you... unless it's things I didn't want to hear and hence wouldn't want to share. | |
What would you change if you could?: No point in having any regrets - ever - but it's still possible to learn from one's - and others' - mistakes... |

I moved to Colorado after college and taught high school math for 5 years. When I moved here, I joined a singles square dance club which is where I met a 3-generation Colorado native, Bob Shaw. We've been happily married for 44 years and have one daughter Christy. I eventually went back to school and got an MS in Accounting degree from CU at Denver. After working as a General Accountant in industry for 25 years, I retired from Hunter Douglas Window Fashions in 2008. I love to camp and hike in the mountains and enjoy singing in my church choir. I've been involved with Girl Scouts, participate in various church activities and most recently, have been baby sitting our 8 month old granddaughter. Bob and I square dance and now have the "luxury" of a small trailer for our camping excursions. Bob and I love music and take in several concerts of various types during the year. I'm looking forward to seeing long lost friends at the reunion. Many thanks to all who've worked so hard to create such an awesome event. Elementary: Fern Hill |

A special thank you to the awesome committee that has done such a wonderful job. You are all so very special & talented. After working for a dentiist during H School, I attended St. Cloud and roomed with Lorilee (great times),worked for other dentists, an optometrist, retail , library aide at elem school, and even ushered for the Colorado Rockies. I've been married to my sweetheart, David, for 47 years, had a daughter and a son, and tried to keep up with all of them. We left MN for Iowa (Garner & Iowa Falls), then Kennewick (WA), Denver, and after we both retired, back to Kennewick. Eastern WA is the best! We are in south central WA with 3 rivers, little snow, our share of heat, low humidity, and NO misquitoes! Our Son, Brian, lives with his wife, a daughter & son in Spokane (WA) about 2-1/2 hours away, and our Daughter, Lori, is in Denver with her husband and 2 sons. Since our 4 grandchildren are still young, we trravel to see them as often as they will let us. They all sure make life worth living. |

After graduation from our alma mater, I escaped to the sunshine at the University of Arizona in Tucson. After only one year there, I returned to Minneapolis due to the death of my father. While attending the the University of Minnesota, I met and married Alex Siegel. Graduating with a degree in Elem. Ed. in 1965, I taught 2nd & 3rd grades in the St. Paul schools while Alex completed his Ph.D. in Child Psychology. He was offered his 1st academic appointment at the University of Pittsburgh. While there, Jeffrey was born in 1968 and Laurie followed in 1971. After 12 years, Alex was offered a Professorship in the Department of Psychology and the Directorship of the Graduate Training Program in Developmental Psychology at the University of Houston. Being Texans now, we wear cowboy boots, Stetson hats and have developed a significant drawl. Because we live in suburbia, we cannot keep cattle or develop our oil wells. Jeff (a physicist) and his wife Karen (a microbiologist) are DINKS (Double Income, No Kids) and live in Boston. Laurie and her children, Sarah (11) and Alexander (8) live in Christchurch, New Zealand. Laurie received her Masters Degree in Counseling and is currently Operations Director for the Problem Gambling Foundation of New Zealand. Apparently one of our children's life goals was to live as far away from their parents as possible. At least we have great places to visit! We try to see our grandchildren as often as possible, but it is a long, long flight. They have come to visit us several times in Houston and in Cape Cod. As far as my other world, I enjoy a great variety of activities. I enjoy reading, book groups, bridge and other games, and being with friends for lunch and dinner. Alex's coin collecting hobby has evolved into a business, and he stays busy doing research and writing about foreign coins as well as buying and selling them. I am an Independent Beauty Consultant for Mary Kay Cosmetic. I don't have a pink Caddy, nor do I expect to get one soon. I try not to let my business get in the way of my social life, but I do try to keep everyone, including myself, looking young and beautiful. It seems to really work. I look pretty good for 92, don't you think?? |
